Roulette

Roulette is possibly the most popular casino game you will find in any online and land based casino and extremely easy to play. Its name comes from the French word ‘little wheel’ and is a game that has all the elements that make a casino game exciting; it’s fast, unpredictable and hitting a winning number is one of the best feelings you can have in the casino.

How to play roulette?

A roulette wheel consists of 37 numbered segments (38 if you are playing an American version of the game) and the 37 segments are numbered from 0 to 36. The ‘0’ segment is green and then numbers 1 to 36 are either red or black. The dealer then takes a small ball and spins it round the table – about 20 seconds later it then lands in one of the 37 segments and, voila, you now have your winning number.

Before the dealer spins the ball, players can place bets on a number of different options and there is a set payout table depending on what players bet on. Betting options are split into what are described as ‘Outside’ bets and ‘Inside bets’.

Outside bets are generally easier to win on as they cover more numbers but the payouts for winning outside bets is low. For example if you bet on the ball landing on a ‘red’ number and you bet £/€10 – if you win you would double your money and get £/€20 back.

Inside bets are usually more difficult to win on and should you guess the exact number that the ball lands on you would win 35 times your money. So for example, if you bet £/€1 on the ball landing on number 17 and it does, you would get £/€36 returned back to you.

Online roulette comes in two forms – you can either play at a live table which is streamed through the internet with a live dealer who you can actually interact with in real time or play on a video roulette table which uses a random number generator (RNG) to determine results.

Always remember, when you play roulette you are not playing against any other player, you play against the casino and there is approximate 3% house edge (advantage) in favour of the casino. If you do get lucky and win, take the money and run!
