Blackjack Systems and Strategy

Using systems and blackjack strategy can play more of a role when compared to other casino games because the decisions you make while playing will alter the outcome of the game. There are 52 cards in a deck and if you were to remove just one ace from the pack, it would severely alter the odds of getting an ace as your next card. Traditionally blackjack is played using 6 decks and with a combination of using the best strategy and knowing when more high cards are likely to be in the decks you can really get excellent value out of your blackjack experience.

Blackjack Systems (Card Counting)

Card counting is a system that has been talked about for years. Very few are able to master the technique but if you are extremely patient and have good concentration skills, there is no reason as to why you won’t be able to determine when the deck has more or less high cards left to play with.

In his book entitled ‘Playing Blackjack as a Business’, Lawrence Revere, who was a professional card player, explained his theory which he called the ‘plus/minus strategy’. His theory was to assign a value to every card in the deck and these values were to be calculated as and when they were removed from the deck during gameplay.

Cards from 2-6 are worth +1

Cards 7-9 count as 0

Cards 10-Ace are worth -1

By using this technique, you wouldn’t need to memorise every single card that is taken out of the deck but you would be able to know when there is more likelihood of high cards coming out as the ‘count’ could be +5 for example.

The concept is that you would bet higher when there is more chance of high card coming out and some gamblers have been able to make a living off using this technique.
